Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 20 August 2026
These Terms & Conditions apply to purchases made through the English Ink online store.
English Ink is an independent, artist-led business creating small-batch, handmade ceramic artwork. By placing an order through this website, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.
Please read them carefully before placing an order. Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
1. About English Ink
English Ink is an independent art and ceramics brand specialising in individually handmade, hand-painted and hand-finished ceramic pieces.
Each piece is created individually rather than manufactured as part of a mass-production process. As a result, no two pieces will necessarily be identical.
Natural variations in the ceramic, glaze, paintwork, finish, texture, colour, small marks and other characteristics may occur. These variations are a natural consequence of the handmade process and contribute to the individuality of each piece.
Where a product listing identifies a specific individual piece, the photographs and description relate to that particular item. Where applicable, the individual collection or piece number shown in the listing identifies the exact piece being offered for sale.
These characteristics do not affect your statutory rights where an item is faulty, not as described or otherwise fails to meet the requirements of applicable consumer law.
2. Products and Product Photography
Every effort is made to ensure that product descriptions and photographs accurately represent the items available for purchase.
However, colours can appear slightly different depending on photography, lighting, screen settings and the device being used to view the website.
Because English Ink products are handmade, there may also be minor variations between pieces within the same collection.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, the photographs of an individual product are intended to represent the actual piece being offered for sale.
3. Availability
English Ink produces work in limited quantities and on a small-batch basis.
Products shown on the website are subject to availability. Occasionally, an item may become unavailable before an order can be processed.
If English Ink is unable to fulfil an order that has been accepted and paid for, you will be contacted as soon as reasonably possible and offered an appropriate resolution, which may include a full refund.
4. Placing an Order
When you place an order through the website, you are making an offer to purchase the selected product.
You are responsible for ensuring that the information supplied when placing your order, including your name, delivery address, email address and contact information, is accurate.
Once your order has been received, you will normally receive an order confirmation by email.
An order confirmation acknowledges that your order has been received. It does not necessarily mean that the order has been dispatched.
If there is a problem with your order, including an issue with availability, payment or product information, English Ink will contact you as soon as reasonably possible.
5. Pricing and Payment
All prices displayed on the website are the prices applicable to the products at the time the order is placed.
Delivery charges, where applicable, will be shown during the checkout process before payment is completed.
Payment must be received in full before an order is dispatched.
English Ink reserves the right to correct genuine pricing or product information errors. If an error has resulted in an incorrect price being displayed and an order has been placed at that price, you will be contacted before the order is processed.
If the corrected price is not acceptable to you, the order may be cancelled and any payment already made will be refunded in full.
6. Handmade Products and Natural Variations
English Ink products are handmade artworks.
Each piece may contain small variations, marks, irregularities or differences in finish that arise naturally during the making, painting, glazing, firing and finishing processes.
These may include, but are not limited to:
- Minor differences in colour or tone
- Variations in paint application
- Small variations in texture or surface finish
- Minor marks or irregularities associated with handmade ceramics
- Slight differences in shape or dimensions
- Variations between pieces within the same collection
These characteristics are not necessarily defects.
However, this section does not affect your statutory rights. A product that is genuinely faulty, materially damaged, not as described or otherwise fails to meet the requirements of applicable consumer law will be dealt with in accordance with those rights.
7. Care of Your Ceramic Artwork
Care instructions are provided with products where appropriate and may also be included within the relevant product description.
Unless otherwise stated, English Ink ceramic pieces should be handled with care and hand washed rather than placed in a dishwasher.
Ceramic artwork should not be subjected to unnecessary impact, dropping, extreme temperatures or other treatment that could reasonably cause damage.
The customer is responsible for following any care instructions supplied with the product.
8. Dispatch Times
English Ink is an independent, artist-led business operated alongside a full-time professional career.
Our normal aim is to dispatch orders within 2–3 business days of receiving payment.
However, there may occasionally be periods when dispatch takes longer because of work commitments, international travel, exhibitions, events, holidays or other circumstances affecting the availability of the artist.
If a longer dispatch period is anticipated, reasonable efforts will be made to communicate this clearly through the website or directly with affected customers.
Placing an order with English Ink means you acknowledge that this is a small independent business and that dispatch may occasionally take longer than the normal 2–3 business day target.
Any specific delivery timeframe agreed with you will take precedence where applicable.
Nothing in this section limits your statutory rights in relation to delivery.
9. Delivery
Orders are sent using the delivery service selected or specified at checkout.
Delivery times provided by English Ink or its delivery partners are estimates unless a specific guaranteed delivery service has been purchased and agreed.
Once an order has been dispatched, responsibility for delivery is shared with the relevant delivery provider. English Ink will, however, make reasonable efforts to assist with delivery issues and lost or delayed parcels.
You are responsible for providing an accurate and complete delivery address.
If an order cannot be delivered because an incorrect or incomplete address has been supplied, additional delivery costs may apply before the order can be resent.
Where an order is returned to English Ink because it could not be delivered, we will contact you to arrange the next steps.
10. International Orders
International orders may be subject to customs duties, import taxes, handling fees or other charges imposed by the destination country.
These charges are not normally included in the product or delivery price unless explicitly stated.
Any applicable customs duties, import taxes or other charges are the responsibility of the customer unless otherwise stated at checkout.
Customers purchasing from outside the United Kingdom are responsible for ensuring that the products can legally be imported into their country.
International delivery times are estimates and can be affected by customs processing or circumstances outside the control of English Ink.
11. Damaged Items
English Ink takes care when packaging ceramic artwork for dispatch.
If your order arrives damaged, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible at:
Hello@englishink.uk
Please provide:
- Your order number
- Your name
- A description of the damage
- Clear photographs of the damaged product
- Photographs of the packaging, including any visible damage
Please retain the original packaging until the matter has been resolved, as it may be required for an investigation or delivery claim.
We will assess the issue and work with you to determine the appropriate resolution in accordance with your statutory rights.
12. Faulty or Incorrect Items
If you believe your item is faulty, materially damaged, incorrect or not as described, please contact English Ink as soon as possible.
Please provide your order number and details of the issue, together with photographs where appropriate.
Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
Depending on the circumstances and applicable consumer law, you may be entitled to a repair, replacement, price reduction or refund.
The fact that a product is handmade does not remove these rights.
13. Returns and Your Right to Cancel
If you are a consumer purchasing online, you generally have the right to cancel your order without giving a reason within 14 days of receiving the goods, subject to the legal exceptions that apply to distance sales.
If you wish to cancel an order under this right, please contact English Ink at:
Hello@englishink.com
You should clearly state that you wish to cancel your order and provide your order number.
Once you have notified us of your cancellation, you generally have a further 14 days to return the goods.
Returned goods should be sent securely packaged and in a condition that allows their value to be assessed appropriately.
Where required by law, English Ink will refund the applicable purchase price and standard delivery charge. Refunds will normally be made using the original payment method.
English Ink may wait until the goods have been returned, or until you provide evidence that they have been sent back, before issuing the refund where permitted by law.
You are responsible for the direct cost of returning an item where the law permits this.
14. Condition of Returned Goods
Customers are entitled to handle goods to the extent necessary to establish their nature, characteristics and functionality, in the same way they reasonably could in a shop.
If goods are handled beyond what is reasonably necessary and their value is reduced as a result, English Ink may be entitled to make a deduction from the refund in accordance with applicable law.
This does not affect your statutory rights.
15. Bespoke or Personalised Work
Where English Ink agrees to create a product specifically personalised or made to the customer's specifications, the normal statutory cancellation rights may not apply where an applicable legal exception exists for personalised or bespoke goods.
Any such exception will be communicated to you before the order is confirmed.
This does not affect your rights in relation to goods that are faulty or otherwise do not conform to the contract.
16. Refunds
Where a refund is due, English Ink will process it in accordance with applicable consumer law.
Refunds will normally be made using the same payment method used for the original purchase unless another method has been agreed.
The time taken for the refund to appear in your account may depend on your payment provider or bank.
17. Intellectual Property
All artwork, designs, illustrations, photographs, product imagery, written content, logos, branding and other original material appearing on the English Ink website are owned by or licensed to English Ink unless otherwise stated.
You may not reproduce, copy, modify, distribute, commercially exploit or otherwise use English Ink artwork, photography, designs or branding without prior written permission.
Purchasing a physical piece of artwork does not transfer copyright or other intellectual property rights in the artwork to the purchaser.
The customer owns the physical item purchased, subject to these Terms & Conditions, but English Ink retains the intellectual property rights associated with the artwork and its reproduction.
18. Product Use
English Ink products should only be used for their intended purpose as described in the relevant product listing.
Where a product is designed or marketed as an ashtray or cigar accessory, it should be used responsibly and with appropriate care.
Products should never be used in a manner that creates an unreasonable risk of fire, injury or damage.
English Ink is not responsible for damage resulting from misuse, improper handling or failure to follow supplied care instructions, except where such responsibility cannot legally be excluded or limited.
19. Website Information
English Ink takes reasonable care to ensure that information displayed on the website is accurate and current.
Occasionally, errors, omissions or technical issues may occur.
English Ink reserves the right to update product descriptions, photographs, prices, availability and other website information where reasonably necessary.
Any changes will not affect an order that has already been accepted and confirmed, except where required to correct a genuine error or comply with applicable law.
20. Liability
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits any liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
In particular, nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your legal rights concerning faulty, unsafe or misdescribed goods, or any other rights that cannot legally be excluded.
English Ink will not be responsible for losses that arise solely from circumstances outside its reasonable control, subject always to your statutory rights.
Where English Ink is legally responsible for a problem with an order, the appropriate remedy will be provided in accordance with applicable law.
21. Events Outside Our Control
Occasionally circumstances beyond the reasonable control of English Ink may affect the production, processing or delivery of an order.
These circumstances may include significant disruption to postal or courier services, natural events, serious illness, government restrictions, industrial action, major transport disruption, or other unforeseen events.
Where such an event affects your order, English Ink will make reasonable efforts to keep you informed and to fulfil the order as soon as reasonably possible.
This section does not remove or reduce any statutory rights you may have.
22. Privacy
Personal information provided when placing an order will be handled in accordance with the English Ink Privacy Policy.
Please refer to the Privacy Policy for information about how personal information is collected, used, stored and protected.
23. Changes to These Terms
English Ink may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the business, website or applicable law.
The version of the Terms & Conditions applicable to an order will be the version in force at the time that order was placed.
The latest version will always be made available through the English Ink website.
24. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you may also have rights under the laws applicable in your place of residence where those rights cannot legally be excluded.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions prevents you from exercising any statutory rights available to you.

26. Your Statutory Rights
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to limit or exclude your statutory rights.
Consumers have legal rights in relation to goods that are faulty, not as described, or otherwise do not conform to the contract. Online purchases may also carry a statutory right to cancel within the applicable cancellation period.
If any part of these Terms & Conditions conflicts with a mandatory requirement of applicable consumer law, that legal requirement will take precedence.
These Terms & Conditions should therefore be read alongside your statutory consumer rights.
